Genma Himuro is Jūbei's arch nemesis, and the leader of the Eight People of Kimon. He is an extremely powerful immortal shinobi. Years before the movie's events, he served the Yamashiro Clan and fooled Jūbei and the other clansmen into fighting amongst themselves.

Personality[]

Genma is a cold and calculating ninja leader. He works in the shadows and displays an eerie calmness when confronted with problems by his subordinates. His immortality has made him fearless and arrogant when dealing with his enemies. Genma is a vassal of the Toyotomi family, archrival to the Tokugawa Shogunate, but his real ambition is to take the gold and use it to establish an army of ninja through which he can rule all of Japan from the shadows. Genma seems to be addicted to sex and makes love to both men and women within his clan. This causes great jealousy among his ninja as they compete for his affection. He will also shape shift in order to more easily seduce a new lover as he did when he impersonated Hyōbu Sakaki.

His overall demeanor remains that of a calm emotionless killer for the whole time. It perhaps is a part and parcel of Genma's supernatural control over his body is a corresponding supernatural control over his emotions. His expression seldom changes, and he looks serene even in the middle of committing atrocities or when his plans have just been foiled. He is only little phased when Jūbei disrupts his master plan.

He has no real loyalty to anyone. Believing that Genma is on the same side that other people is a bad assumption, no matter who they are. For example, it is shown when he betrayed the Shogun of the Dark. He shows no emotion at all about betraying others, or when his colleagues and henchmen within the People of Kimon are killed. He also doesn't care for his lovers.

Appearance[]

Genma is portrayed as a tall man in his physical prime. He is muscular, lean, and dressed in traditional ninja armor. He has black hair with a scar around his neck from when his head was cut from his body. His face is usually emotionless which makes him scary and unpredictable. He wears metal armor on his functioning left arm.

Biography[]

Genma is a deceptive shinobi who formerly served under the Yamashiro Clan and tricked them into trying to kill Jūbei for being a traitor. In turn Jūbei was forced to kill the Yamashiro clan in self defense, and decapitated Genma to avenge them. Genma was then able to reincarnate his body with the ninja powers. He then began working in the shadows to form the Eight People of Kimon; 8 powerful ninja with super natural abilities.

As part of the Shogun of the Dark's plan to smuggle the gold stolen from the Tokugawa Shogunate, Genma assassinated Hyōbu Sakaki - Chamberlain of the Mochizuki Clan - and assumed his identity in order to keep their forces from interfering with his objective. He only revealed himself after Kagerō called for reinforcements to Kashima Harbour where the Toyotomi retainers were waiting to receive their gold. Genma murdered Kagerō by stabbing her in the back, which enraged Jūbei Kibagami, Genma's old nemesis who had killed him once before.

As the ship set sail, Genma revealed his true intentions to the Toyotomi retainer; he intended to keep the gold for himself and build up a ninja army of his own to conquer Japan. He then killed the retainer by throwing him overboard.

After killing Zakuro, Jūbei and Dakuan set off an explosion in the ship's hold that threatened to sink the vessel. Genma ordered his men to abandon ship while he went to confront Jūbei one last time. The two adversaries fought in the ship's hold which was completely set ablaze, and Genma seemed to have the advantage. The armour covering his arm shielded him from all of Jūbei's attacks and any injuries he did sustain rapidly healed. Jūbei caved Genma's skull in by repeatedly headbutting him, cleaved him down the middle and impaled him upon a broken support beam, but Genma's power of reincarnation allowed him to regenerate his wounds rapidly.

However, the key to Genma's downfall turned out to be the gold that he had worked so hard to obtain. The heat from the fire inside the hold melted the gold bars and began to flood the deck. As Genma was recovering from another fatal blow, the searing liquid metal washed over him and covered his whole body. Even this did not kill him, though the burning pain he experienced was incredible. Jūbei managed to stay above the torrent of molten gold by clinging to the ladder up to the main deck. The enraged and gold-enveloped Genma reached out for Jūbei and tried to take him down with him, but Jūbei severed Genma's arm and sent him plummeting into the boiling pool of gold. Jūbei managed to escape and he watched as Genma's ship sank beneath the waves. Genma too fell to the bottom of the sea, rendered inanimate by the gold that had cooled over his body, probably still alive.

Abilities[]

Gemma possesses the greatest ability of all the Kimon: the power of reincarnation. Any time he is fatally wounded, his injuries will rapidly heal. He can reconnect and heal any lost bodily tissue including his limbs. It is unknown how Gemma acquired this power. This makes him almost impossible to defeat unless he is trapped alive. Genma is a powerful ninja master with unmatched speed, agility, and shape shifting abilities. He also has the power to seduce both men and women to bow to his wishes.

As a skilled master of ninjitsu, he can deliver a barrage of deadly combo attacks on his opponents at an alarming speed. He's the last of the Kimon which Jūbei confronts, and the skill gap between them is quite large. Jūbei only manages to beat him through extreme determination and a bit of luck.
